It has taken me a while to recover physically and mentally from Marianna's first birthday party to get these pictures up. This post is going to be mainly for my records and will be a little cathartic for me as I laugh about the events leading up to Saturday.
Needless to say, we had our challenges...
The black clouds started rolling in for us Thursday night when I noticed a slight clear liquid coming out of Marianna's nose after waking from her afternoon nap. The next morning, full out runny nose, cough, watery eyes...the works! Oh, no...seriously?? The blows kept coming when the weather forecast called for 40% chance of rain on the Friday weather forecast for Saturday. C'mon! Waking up Saturday, still having a little optimism left...we turned on to hear what Humphrey had to say about the day..."give us some good news, Humphrey" we said. The forecast called for a bright, sunny, beautiful start to the day...then clouds rolling in around 3pm and a severe thunderstorm watch with strong wind and hail at around 4pm, (but no tornados...). Well, we had our tents and resigned ourselves to the fact that "whatever happens, happens". We prepared the outside with tents and shelter from the storm for our guests, but knew the party was going to be moved inside. So we have a very sick baby, and wind driven rain coming our way for the afternoon. At least we might have a well rested baby if we could get her down for a good nap, right? No such luck. For the first time EVER, Marianna skipped her 10am nap entirely! We just couldn't catch a break!
4pm comes, and party starts. The "storm" came and it wasn't so bad. Just some steady rain. Marianna ended up taking a 3.5 hour afternoon nap, although waking up pretty cranky, but it did allow us to get a lot done...thankfully, and eventually the skies cleared up and everyone was able to enjoy the outside.
I guess I learned a lesson that no matter how bad things get or what they seem, they are always bound to get better and turn out great!
Despite Marianna being sick, there were moments when she was able to enjoy playing with all the other kids....here are some shots of our family, friends and Marianna from her special day that will definately be one for the books!
Her beautiful cake decorated like the invitation came out wonderfully!
The outside looked great and there was a lot of protection from the rain...so people were able to be outside "comfortably" after all.
I was very proud of the collage I made of Marianna's first year...
Marianna's great grandpa-Joe!
